Debra Gaye Carpenter, resident of Pawhuska OK, passed away on July 13, 2011, at St. Johns Hospital in Tulsa OK. She was 54 years of age. Debra was born July 9, 1957, in Tulsa, the daughter of Raymond Anthony Lasley, Sr., and Peggee Joe (Stone) Lasley. She attended Immaculate Conception School, Indian Camp School, Tahlequah-Sequoyah School, and Pawhuska High School. She then attended the Haskell Institute in Lawrence KS, Art School at Okmulgee Tech in Okmulgee OK, and Nursing School at Rogers State College. She married Donald Wayne Carpenter in June of 1985 in Colorado Springs CO. Debra was very active and well known in tribal dance activities. Her enjoyments were Indian dancing and helping young people by coaching both girls and boys basketball. She coached a girls basketball team in the Native American Olympics.
She is survived by her two children, Ciaradon Carpenter and Chancellor Brave, both of the home in Pawhuska; brother Raymond Anthony Lasley II of Grayhorse OK; sisters Mary Raelene Bear, Michele Raye Lasley, and Lori Jo Morgan, all of Lawrence KS; many nieces and nephews; 2 great nieces; and 2 great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Marvin Lasley.
