Harriet's obituary was provided by a family member but the publication data is unknown:
"Parkersburg Eclipse: Harriet King was born in New York state Sept 1, 1842, and departed this life March 8, 1929, at her home near Swanton, at the age of 86 years, 6 months and 7 days.
She was united in marriage to Solomon Lashbrook in May, 1856, at Harvard, Ill., the husband preceding her in death April 6, 1920.
To this union was born two sons, Moses of Shell Rock and Henry Horace at home. With her husband she came to Iowa in a covered wagon drawn by oxen over 70 years ago, and has lived continuously in Albion township. She has lived a beautiful Christian life, and to know her was to love her. She was a faithful wife, a loving mother and a friend to all who knew her.
She leaves to mourn her passing two sons, Moses and Henry, two grandchildren, Mrs. Fred Hart and Roscoe Lashbrook; also five great grandchildren, besides a host of friends.
Farewell, dear mother, sweet thy rest,
Farewell, till in some happy place
We shall behold thy face again.
Lonely our hearts today
For the one we loved so dearly
Has forever passed away."
Family tradition, the 1925 Iowa census and this obituary indicate her maiden name to be King, however, her marriage record papers give her maiden name as Jewell.
Her parents are reportedly Samuel Jewell and Roana his wife. Further research needs to be done on this lineage.
Copy of permission to marry signed by her father S. W. Jewell is available to researchers by contacting Carol.
