MARIE ELLEN CHURCHEY, 83, of Sharpsburg, Md., passed away Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015, at her home. Born in Chestnut Grove, Md., Nov. 1, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur John and Ellen Iola Gross Lapole. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford S. “Eight Ball” Churchey, in 2009.

Marie retired from Shepherd College, where she was employed as a housekeeper. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Sharpsburg, and a member of Antietam American Legion Post 236 Auxiliary in Sharpsburg.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Ahalt of Sharpsburg; a son, Michael Churchey of Sharpsburg; a granddaughter; and three sisters, Mary Sperow of Boonsboro, Carlene Snyder of Hagerstown, Md., and Alice Witmer of Sharpsburg.

In addition to her husband and parents, Marie was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Lewis; and two brothers, James Lapole and Norman Lapole.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015, at 11 a.m. in Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg; arrangements by the Osborne Funeral Home, Williamsport.
