CHAMPION, Mich. - Berle Vance LaPin 81, longtime Champion resident passed away Thursday Morning at the Mather Nursing Center.
Born November 24,1930 in Champion the son of Peter and Josephine LaPin he was a 1948 graduate of Champion High School. After graduation he served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr LaPin worked for the Cleveland Cliff Iron Company for 30 years first at the Mather B Mine then retiring from the Tilden Mine in 1991 after 30 years of service. A member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Champion Fire Department and the Negaunee Elks he was also the Champion Township Supervisor for over forty years.
He is survived by one Daughter Cindy Lapin of New York, New York, two Sons,B.Michael (Carrie) LaPin of Negaunee and Peter (Sonia) LaPin of Champion. Grandchildren Brinn Hicks, Katie Hicks, Derrick Hicks, Jesse LaPin and Brandon (Diana) LaPin. Greatgrandchildren,Ava LaPin and Cooper Lapin.
Funeral services will be held Saturday 2 PM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Champion with Father Greg Heikkila to officiate. Visitation will be from 11AM until he time of the service at the church. Graveside burial services will be held at the Champion Catholic Cemetery with the Vietnam Veterans #380 doing the military honors.
