~ Elizabeth May Allen ~

Edna – Mrs. Elizabeth May Allen, 77, died April 30, 1949, in Chetopa at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ruth Ditzler. Mrs. Allen had been suffering from a heart ailment for several years, but became seriously ill only recently before her death.

Born Elizabeth May Lanning, May 22, 1871 in Barnard, Mo., she was married to James H. Beahm in 1890. He died in 1904 and in 1908 she was married to James M. Allen, who died in 1933.

Mrs. Allen came to Chetopa in 1914, moving to Edna in 1928. Except for a period of five years, she had lived in this section since first coming here. She was a member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors included two sons, C.H. Beahm of Pomona, Cal., and Donald Allen of Chanute; three daughters, Mrs. E.O. Thompson of Edna, Mrs. H.E. Wackerie of Chetopa and Mrs. Ditzler; two brothers, George Lanning of Anderson, Mo., and John Lanning of Tower City, N.D.; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Beahm of Sterling, Colo., and Mrs. Leona Brodrick of Anderson, Mo.; and nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 2:30, May 1, 1949, at the Methodist Church in Edna with the Rev. Wright Horton in charge. Burial was in the North Edna Cemetery. Goodwin Funeral home was in charge of the body and burial.
