CARROLL, MELISSA JANE LANIER "JANIE"
"Her children arise up and call her blessed, her husband also, and he
praiseth her." Proverbs 31:28. She went to be with her Lord at 5:15 p.m.
Monday, July 4, 2011, surrounded by her family. She was 90, a native of
Corbin and resident of Greenwell Springs. Visitation at Seale Funeral Home,
Denham Springs, Wednesday, July 6, from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. Visitation
will resume Thursday, July 7, at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until service
at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Gerald Martin and the Rev. Merlin McCon.
Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. She is survived by a daughter
and son-in-law, Charlotte and Loyd B. Hutchinson, of Denham Springs; son
and daughter-in-law, Ivy Douglas "Doug" Carroll Jr. and Sylvia J. Browning
Carroll, of Greenwell Springs; four sisters, Addie Lou Hancock, of
Greenwell Springs, Lois Anderman, of Walker, Verna Theriot, of Kenner, and
Kay Fairburn, of Denham Springs; brother, Donald Lanier, of Swink, Okla.;
six grandchildren, Layne, Lynne and wife Tonya, and D'Shee Hutchinson,
Kristie and husband Eric Chauvin, Gawain and wife Jennifer Carroll, and
Shannon and husband Richard Swearingen; 10 great-grandchildren, Myles and
Grant Johnson, Sydney, Clay and Noah Chauvin, Jaide and Joey Carroll,
Austin Lewis, Madison and Jeffrey Swearingen; as well as numerous nieces
and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, the Rev.
Ivy D. Carroll Sr.; parents, John Samuel and Geneva McDowell Lanier; three
brothers, Henry, Huey and Alonzo "Junior" Lanier; five sisters, Quinnie Mae
Tyler, Camille Stafford, Lorena Fletcher, Etta Bozeman and Lora Cutrer.
Brother Ivy and "Miss Janie" pastored four churches during their 44-year
ministry: Red Oak Baptist in Livingston, Mount Zion Baptist in Galvez,
Fordoche Baptist in Livonia and Emmanuel Baptist in Denham Springs. She
loved her God, family, friends and church. "Miss Janie" started WMUs,
nurseries, women's Bible studies, music programs and taught adult and youth
classes. Together, Brother Ivy and "Miss Janie" made an awesome team for
the Lord. She retired from the Greenwell Springs TB Hospital as an
accountant IV after 20 years. She was a past worthy matron of Mystic Star
108, Order of the Eastern Star. "Miss Janie" was a beautiful lady and will
be missed by all who knew her and felt her love. She was a member of
Fellowship Baptist Church, Greenwell Springs. Pallbearers will be grandsons
and nephews, Layne Hutchinson, Lynne Hutchinson, Gawain Carroll, Eric
Chauvin, Bill Hancock, Alvin Fairburn, Jr. and Ernest Forbes. The family
would like to express their sincere thanks to Betty Dunn, Generations
Hospice and Synergy Home Care for the love and care shown to "Miss Janie."
