Mrs. Mary Gelbke Claimed By Death
Mother of Gretna's Mayor Succumbs to Heart Attack
Death claimed Mrs. Mary Gelbke, nee Lanier, mother of Dr. Charles F. Gelbke, mayor of Gretna and Casper P. Gelbke, well known Texas and Pacific railroad conducter, at 3 a.m. Tuesday; she was also the mother of the late Louisa Edith Gelbke, who died on March 29, 1878, at the age of 2 years and 7 months. Mrs. Gelbke was stricken with a heart attack. She had been a member of the McDonoghville Methodist church for many years.
She died at the home of her son, Casper, at 7823 Birch street. In recent years she had lived at times at with both her sons. Previously she had conducted a drug store in McDonoghville, having entered business following the death of her husband, Louis C. Gelbke.
Besides her two sons, she leaves a sister, Mrs. Louise Larsen, and a brother, Stanley Lanier, who lives in Tangipahoa where Mrs. Gelbke was born 77 years ago. She also leaves a niece, Mrs. George L. Wagner; five grandchildren and two grat-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements have not been completed because of the absence of her son in Kansas City, Mo., but the funeral probably will be held Thursday. Interment will be in Metairie cemetery. Mrs. Gelbke was a member of Corinthian Chapter No. 113, Order of the Eastern Star. [Addendum: from the Times-Picayune (New Orleans, LA), Thursday, May 14, 1931 - The funeral will be conducted from the parlors of Prescott & Schopp, 4820 Magazine street, and interment will be in Metairie cemetery.
