Helen May Baehler, 92, Wallace County, died Saturday, April 28, 2007, at Prairie Manor Good Samaritan Center, Sharon Springs. A service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church, Sharon Springs. The Rev. Gary Davison and the Rev. Paul McNall will officiate. Burial will be in the Winona Cemetery. Helen Baehler was born Sept. 16, 1914, on the family farm northeast of Wallace, the daughter of Humphrey Barber Langdon and Neoma Ermie Vale Langdon. She attended Pleasant Hill Rural School and Winona Consolidated Schools. She taught at a rural school for part of a year and then did housework for people.
She married Everett Bliss Baehler Aug. 8, 1935, at the Sherman County courthouse, Goodland. They had nine children. She worked as a cook at Harrison Flats School from 1972 till 1974 when the school closed. She worked at Sharon Springs U.S.D. 241 and retired in 1982. For a couple summers she worked as a cook at Heyl's Cafe.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading, playing cards, working word puzzles and being with family. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Dover Grange, Pinochle Club and Social Hour Club. She was a 4-H project leader and volunteer at the Senior Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Baehler; an infant son, Everett Eugene Baehler; her parents; two sisters, Viola Knox and Lois Ballentine; and three brothers, Everett, Emerson and Emery Langdon. Survivors include seven daughters, Gladys Mae Sunderland, Delta, Colo., Norma Irene Blossom, Bozeman, Mont., Janet Kay Droste, Leoti, Judy Ann Kazmaier, Marthasville, Mo., Carol Elaine McGuire, Oakley, Vickie Sue Kyner, Marysville, Deanna Rae Bussen, Wallace; one son, Gary Lee Baehler, Newton; 26 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
