Funeral services for Carol D. Lang, 59, of Portales will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, April 7, 2012, at the Floyd Gymnasium with Rev. Dennis Mitchell and Rev. Liz Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Floyd Cemetery with Jay Lang, Dewayne Goar, Ricky Sharp, Daniel Terrazas, Ty Goar, J.W. Lang, Jay Teachout, and Ryan Willoughby serving as pallbearers. Bobby Ham, Tina Cameron, and Melissa Pimpsner along with the Floyd School Board and Administrators will be honorary pallbearers.
A fund has been established in her memory at the James P Stone Community Bank to help with medical expenses, or donations may be made in her honor to the Floyd Schools to be used in the music program.
Carol Dean Lang was born December 29, 1952, to the home of Thelma and William T. Ham, and died April 4, 2012, in Amarillo, TX. Carol grew up in Las Cruces, NM, and was a diehard Las Cruces Bulldog. She was a 1969 graduate of Las Cruces High School. On April 3, 1971 in Las Cruces, she was married to George Richard Lang. The couple had six children together before divorcing in 1987. During that time, they lived in numerous places in AZ, and NM, following Mr. Lang's construction work.
In 1994, Carol moved to Portales, and began attending Eastern New Mexico University, eventually earning a Bachelor's degree and two Master's degrees, one in Education and one in Women's Studies. Carol had taught her entire career in the Floyd Schools. Had she been able to complete the current year, she would have taught for 14 years. She taught primarily music, but had later added English, History, and Creative Writing. Later this month she will be honored by the National Honor Society as an outstanding teacher for the many lives she touched.
Carol was a member of the Floyd Baptist Church where she was the pianist.
She enjoyed reading, crocheting, and cooking, but the light of her life was her grandchildren.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Debbie Lang of Portales; five daughters and two sons-in-law, Darla Hope and Dewayne Goar of Alto, NM, Starla and Ricky Sharp of Melrose, NM, Sharla Charity Lang and Daniel Terrazas of Truth or Consequences, NM, Joy Lang of Portales, and Willa Grace Lang of Clovis; 16 grandchildren, Ty Goar, Samantha Penner, Jay, Joseph and Melissa Teachout, Makayla Lang, Dominic and Morgan Terrazas , J.W. and Emily Lang, Tiffani and Triston Milner, Zac and Braden Grubbs, Jocelyn Lang, and Branson Willoughby; two great grandchildren, Carson Curtis and Kylee Teachout; a brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Darla Ham of Truth or Consequences, NM, and two foster sisters, Claudine Heogran of Philadelphia, PA, and Betty Jo Alberson of Austin, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a granddaughter, Ashley Goar.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
