James W. "Jay" Lang, 80, a lifelong resident of Deming and the New Mexico Southwest, passed away Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at Mimbres Memorial Hospital in Deming.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 5 from 9 to 10 a.m. at Baca's Funeral Chapel where funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. with Bishop Lawrence N. Martin Jr., Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1st Ward officiating. A graveside service will follow that afternoon in Lordsburg at 2 o'clock at Mountain View Cemetery.
Jay, as most knew him, was born Jan. 7, 1928, in Cleveland, Ohio, and came to this area as a very young child. He was a lifelong cowboy and, over the years, did well repair all around the area, tended to his cattle, and enjoyed his family and pets. He also worked with the New Mexico State Highway Department and was sign foreman at the time of his retirement.
He is survived by his wife Juanita of the home, daughter, Rhonda Lang of Deming; sons, Harvey Lang and his wife Pete of Lordsburg, Fred Lang and his wife Vonnell of Alpine, Ariz.; brother, Carl Lang and his wife Lucille of Montrose, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Abby Redway, Charmon Badillo, Brandy Hallauer, Tracy Vanture, Willis Lang, Jayson Lang, Cooper Lang, and Cassie Lang; and seven great-grandchildren.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Emma Sanford, and two sisters, Norma Baker and Claire Glass.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Honorary bearers are Orville Northington, Claude Rasberry, Russell Baker, Randy Snyder, Alan Smith and Ronnie McClendon.
