The Rev. Alfred Lee Lang Jr., a member of both Toulminville Warren Street United Methodist Church and St. James Missionary Baptist Church, died Wednesday at a local hospital. He was 68.
Lang, a lifelong resident of Mobile, was a 1961 graduate of Central High School, where he played football. He graduated from Alabama Christian College and Bishop State Community College.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War, where he received numerous commendations. While serving, he wrote a letter entitled "A Prayer from Vietnam," which was published in the Congressional Record, according to family members.
Lang served as the National Chairman of the Hank Aaron Fan Club, a member of the Lions Club and a member of the African American National Archives Association, and he was inducted into the Little League Hall of Fame.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Buskey Lang of Mobile; five children, Dietra
Lang-Reynolds and Alfred Alonzo Lang, both of Mobile, Pamela Lang of Dallas, Texas, Aldred Lamar Young of Conyers, Ga., and Clay Carter of Fairburn, Ga.; and 11 grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral at Sunlight District Auditorium in Prichard. Burial will be in Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are by Hodge's Chapel.
