Eileen Enola Langley, 80, a former Ellis resident, died March 7, 2002 at her home at Hays Good Samaritan Center New Dimensions.
She was born March 24, 1921, in Lindsborg to Charles A and Teresa Agnes (Nicholson) Langley. She was a 1938 Ellis High School graduate. She received a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Kansas State University in 1976 and a master's degree in political science in 1981.
She was a stenographer for Burch, Litowich & Royce, Salina, from 1939 to 1940, accounting finance officer for the Department of Army, U.S. Civil Service, Fort Riley, from 1940 to 1972, and treasurer for the Episcopal Church, Junction City, from 1961 to 1979.
She compiled several books, including "Buried Ties to the Old County," published in 1983, "Abstract of 1905 Atlas of Ellis County," published in 1984, "Genealogy of Konig Family," published in 1985, "Genealogy of Niernberger Family," published in 1986, "Abstract of Funeral Records, Niesley Funeral Home, 1921 to 1980," published in 1983, "Index of Obituaries, The Ellis Review, 1891-1990," published in 1991, "Genealogy of Nicholson Sisters," published in 1986, "Genealogy of Sabastian J Trefethen and Elizabeth Locke, & James Isaac Dalrymple and Elizabeth Hazen," six vols, published in 1994, "List of Volga-German Village Founders of Ellis County," published in 1989, "1967 Canvass of Ellis County Cemeteries," published in 1983, "Cemetery Canvasses of Hyacinth Cemetery, St Johns Cemetery, St Anthony Cemetery," published in 1986, and "Abstract of Ellis County Naturalization Records, 1872-1906," published in 1987.
She contributed articles to professional journals. She was treasurer and director of the Ellis Public Library from 1983 to 1992 and served on the executive committee of the Central Kansas Library System, Great Bend, from 1986 to 1995. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi. She was a member of St Michael Episcopal Church, Hays.
Survivors include a brother, Michael Alfred Langley, Coconut Creek, Fla; a sister, Agnes A Niernberger, Ellis; and 11 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas Lee Langley, Gilbert Langley and an infant, Charles Dawin.
Memorial services were March 11 at St Michael Episcopal Church, Hays, with Father Jerry Jones officiating; inurnment at a later date.
