Merle E Atchison

Kirwin--Merle E. Atchison, 70, Kirwin, died February 28, 1990, at the Phillips County Hospital, Phillipsburg.

Mrs. Atchison was born Merle E. Lane on August 16, 1919, at Black Oak, Missouri, and was a longtime Kirwin resident. She and her husband owned and operated the Atchison Cafe, Kirwin, until their retirement.

Her husband, Aral J., died in 1964.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Atchison, of Fort Collins, Colorado, a sister, Ruth Petree, of Braymer, Missouri, and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be Saturday with the Rev. Lois Lenz officiating. Burial will be in the Kirwin Cemetery. Memorials to the Phillips County Hospital.

Merle Atchison

Merle Elizabeth Atchison passed away February 28, 1990, at the age of 70. She was born August 16, 1919, at Black Oak, Missouri, to James Franklin and Mary Rebecca (Vanderpool) Lane.

She married Aral James Atchison of Kirwin at Omaha, Nebraska, April 28, 1938. They lived at Kirwin until his death July 30, 1964. She continued to manage the Atchison Café at Kirwin until she retired to live in the house she and her husband had built in 1963.

Merle is survived by her daughter, Patricia Atchison, and grandchildren: Caroline Lee Harvey and Emily Theresa Harvey of Fort Collins, Colorado; one sister, Ruth Petree of Braymer, Missouri; and one nephew, James Thomas Petree of Independence, Missouri.

Merle will long be remembered for her service to Kirwin and the area in her care, generosity and loving concern for her friends.

Funeral services in memory of Merle Atchison were held Saturday, March 3 at 10 a.m. at Olliff-Boeve memorial Chapel of Phillipsburg with the Rev. Lois Lenz officiating. Fred. R. Henrichs sang "The Old Rugged Cross", "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere", and "The Little Brown Church in the Vale", accompanied by Helen Witmer.

Casket bearers were Byron Fouts, Richard Willis, Dennis Zimmerman, James Atchison, John Wyrill, Jr., and Kenneth Stockman. Interment was in Kirwin Cemetery, Kirwin
