Arlene Caroline Roberts Land, 90, Neosho, died at 5:17 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2003, at Freeman Neosho Hospital, following a short illness.
Mrs. Land was born November 12, 1912, in Newton County and was a lifelong area resident.
She attended high school at Neosho and graduated with honors at Southwest Missouri State University. She taught art in Des Moines, Iowa, and Tulsa, Oklahoma. She later taught at Tuscon, Arizona and returned to Neosho in 1952 and taught until her retirement. She was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where she taught youth, adult and senior classes. She was a former member of A.AU.W., Kapa Delta Gamma, a member of Fortnightly Study Club and Neosho Women's Bridge Club.
She married Julius J. Land in 1942 and he preceded her in death on September 8, 1999.
Survivors include a daughter, Sara Katherine Hoeppner, Joplin, a son, Jim Land, Neosho, three grandchildren, Laura Elizabeth Hoeppner, Caroline Marie Hoeppner, and Phillip Land and two sisters.
Graveside services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the Neosho IOOF Cemetery, with Reve. Craig Kirby-Grove officiating.
