A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 4, 2007 at St. Landry Catholic Church for Alexis Lanclos, Jr. Interment will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery. The Reverend Monsignor Robert Romero, pastor of St. Landry Catholic Church, will officiate. On Sunday, visiting hours will be observed from 3:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., and Deacon Mitchell Hebert will lead a rosary at 7:00 p.m. Visiting hours will resume on Monday at 8:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
At the funeral, Valerie Andrus will sing Just A Closer Walk With Thee (French), How Great Thou Art, Amazing Grace, Hail Mary Gentle Woman, and I'll Fly Away. Lectors will be Caroline Dupre, Amy Bacon, and Jamie Lanclos. Gifts will be carried by Emily Lanclos, Lauren Lanclos, and Natalie Lanclos.
Pallbearers will be Ronald Lanclos, Terry Lanclos, Gerald Marks, Jr., Kyle Bacon, Anthony Lanclos and Joseph Lee Lanclos. Mr. Lanclos' only grandson, Alex, and Charles Dupre will be honorary pallbearers.
Alexis was born to Alecia and Alexis Lanclos, Sr. on November 1, 1925. Raised in the Pecaniere community, he was the ninth of ten siblings, nicknamed "Tee-Frere" as the youngest brother. After proudly serving in the United States Army from 1944 until 1947, he moved to Opelousas. There, he married the former Bernice Prejean, native of Carencro, on November 22, 1952. Mr. Lanclos raised four children, and was a 27-year employee of the City of Opelousas Street Department. During retirement, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends and listening to Cajun music. Alexis was 81 when his soul peacefully departed this world on Saturday, June 2, 2007 at 9:10 a.m. at Doctor's Hospital in Opelousas.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Bernice Prejean Lanclos; two sons, Ronald Lanclos and his wife, the former Audrey Barron, of Port Barre; Terry Lanclos and his wife, the former Janet Castille, of Pine Hurst, TX; one daughter, Caroline Dupre and her husband, Charles, of Baton Rouge; one daughter-in-law, Tammy Chelette Lanclos of Opelousas; six grandchildren, Amy L. Bacon and her husband, Kyle, of Lafayette; Emily Lanclos, Jamie Lanclos, and Natalie Lanclos of Pine Hurst, TX; Lauren Lanclos and Alex Lanclos of Opelousas; one great-grandchild, Andrew Bacon, of Lafayette; and two sisters, Leola Guilbeau of Sunset and Hazel Leger of Opelousas.
Mr. Lanclos was preceded in death by one son, Carl Lanclos; four sisters, Della Zerangue, Noeda Robin, Theresa Leger, and Verlis Martin; and three brothers, Dudley Lanclos, Easton Lanclos, and Steve Lanclos.
Melancon Funeral Home of Opelousas, 4708 1-49 North Service Road was in charge of the arrangements.
