Hester was born to George Clingman Lance and Artilissa Roxanna Jenkins.

Hester and James had one more child, Katie Lee Carter. She was born August 16, 1916 and died of Whooping Cough according to her death certificate, on October 8, 1916. It is unclear on the death certificate where she is born, but may she rest in peace.
