Dean W. Lancaster, 98, of Lincoln, passed away Saturday (8-24-13). Born (11-4-14) in Holmesville to William and Ethel (Matthews) Lancaster. WWII U.S. Army Air Corp veteran. AAF assignment in developing a soil-less culture (hydroponics) unit, Institute of Technology, Weatherford, Okla., Forest Product Lab, Madison, Wis. Retired 1981 after 25 years as secretary manager of the Nebraska Crop Improvement Association at UNL. Member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon, Elder and Board of Trustees.

Received his BA and MA degrees from UNL. Member of Gamma Sigma Delta and Farmhouse Fraternities, Rotary Club, Agriculture Builders of Nebraska, Masonic Lodge, Aksarben Community Service Award, Nebraska Hall of Agricultural Achievement, president and vice president of Nebraska Agricultural Instructors, Board of Directors of National Official Seed Certifying Agencies, American Society of Agronomy, Crop Science Society of America and American Seed Trade Association.

Family members include his wife, Wanda; daughter, Michal (Jon) Schutz; brothers, Warren and Harold Lancaster; sister, Helen Zarate. Preceded in death by parents, brother, Everett.
