MARY LAMERSON HAYDON
Mary L Haydon was born in the town of Van Buren, Onondaga county, N. Y., April 8, 1838 (sic), and died, after an illness of nearly four months, at her home in Lysander, N. Y Dec. 25, 1887, aged 61 years and 9 months. Mrs. Haydon was the daughter of John H. Lamerson, and was one of ten children, of whom one brother and four sisters survive her.

She was married to Zora Haydon, of Pompey. N.Y. in 1844. Soon after her marriage she removed to a farm in the town of Lysander, where she lived for thirty eight years. In the spring of 1884 she removed to the village of Lysander, where she resided until her death.

Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Haydon, of whom all are living but one.

Mrs. Haydon was a member of the Congregational Church, having formerly united with the Reformed Church of Lysander, but her religion wasshown more by her daily life than outward demonstration. She made it a rule never to speak ill of anyone. Always quiet, yet cheerful, she walked patiently through each day, thinking little of self, always of the comfort of others. Her devotion to her children was the distinguishing trait of her character. To leave them was a trial for which she seemed to need an especial
grace. This was undoubtedly given her, for she expressed herself to pastor and friends as "ready to go."

Looking up at the motto "Nearer my God to Thee" hanging in the room, she said, "I never realized until lately
just what that meant." She desired her children to "fear nothing but sin," and wished friends to be assured of
her appreciation of their kindness.

"Through every web of life the dark threads run
Oh, why and whither, God knows all,
I only know that He is good.
And that whatever may befall,
Or here or there, must be the best that could "
