Alda Marie Hazzard Lambertson was my grandmother (my father's mother). She was born to Glenn Thomas Hazzard and Flossie Ellen Gates in Greendale Township, Midland County, Michigan. She was the 2nd born of 7 children that I know of.

1. Baby Boy Hazzard (I think Morris LeRoy Hazzard - from Flossie's bible)
2. ALDA MARIE HAZZARD
3. Floyd J. Hazzard
4. James Hazzard
5. Della Hazzard
6. Glen T. Hazzard
7. Nettie Elizabeth Hazzard

Alda Marie Hazzard and Grant Willard Lambertson married on 15 Oct 1943 in Petoskey, Michigan.

Grandma was my babysitter during the summer one year. (They lived next door.) I must have been about 8 years old. I'll never forget the peanut butter & Welch's grape jelly sandwiches, the ginger snaps & the countless episodes of Gomer Pile & Hogan's Heroes we watched together. She was also a huge fan of Harlequin Romance novels, so there was definitely some "quiet time". I remember her being very patient with me. I'm sure she learned it much earlier in life as she raised 4 children of her own.

Many evenings growing up we spent at their home while they played cribbage with my parents. Ladies against the gentlemen. She often made a big family meal when we were there. Grandma's roasts were the best!

After Grandpa passed away in 1992, she tried to learn how to drive. What an adventure into independence for her! She was 67 and had never driven a car before. Unfortunately it didn't work out, but I'm proud of her for trying. It must have been scarey and exciting at the same time.

Two of her children lived in Florida and one in another part of Michigan. She missed her children dearly and often wrote letters to them. She was one of my most dedicated correspondence partners while I lived overseas. She always had time for me, even when I wasn't there.

My grandmother passed away about 3 & 1/2 months after my daughter was born. I returned to Petoskey for her birth & am so glad she got to see her great granddaughter. We moved back overseas about 13 days before her passing. I still wish I'd spent more time with her.
