Birth: Aug. 29, 1920
Death: Feb. 11, 2010

LILLIAN EWING "Mamaw" LAMBERT, 89, died on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at St. Peter Villa Nursing Home, after a brief illness. She was born in 1920 in Memphis to Robert Lee Ewing and Lillie Bestie Ewing. She attended the old Catholic High School on Central Avenue, where she met her husband of 50 years, John Elwyn Lambert, who predeceased her. Mrs. Lambert is survived by her son, Charlie Lambert (Betty) of Memphis; daughter, Lynne Crawford (Hall, II) of Germantown; grand-children, Tara Mitchell (Mike) of Arlington, VA, Ashley Crawford and Hall Crawford III of Germantown; her son, John Robert Lambert and her only brother, Robert Lee Ewing, Jr., preceded her in death. She also leaves two great-grandchildren, Taylor Ewing Mitchell and Riley Lambert Mitchell of Arlington, VA. A lifelong Memphian, "Mamaw" was a member of The Church of the Holy Spirit. She was beloved by all who knew her and had friends of every age. She loved being with family, taking frequent trips to Tunica, and going on regular Friday shopping and lunch excursions with her daughter and her faithful caregiver, Ms. Betty Champion. She practiced the vanishing-art of hand-written cards, letters, and thank-you notes to anyone who did even the slightest thing for her. She lived for the last 13 years with her son and daughter-in-law, who, with the substantial help of her daughter and son-in-law, provided for her care. The viewing will take place at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 2300 Hickory Crest Dr., at 9 a.m. on Saturday, February 13, followed by a funeral Mass at the same location at 11 a.m. that morning. The family asks that memorials be sent to St. Peter Villa, where the dedicated and caring staff made Lillian's last days peaceful and comfortable, or the Poor Clares in Frayser, one of Lillian's favorite charities. This gentle, selfless lady will be missed by all those who ever met her. Memphis Funeral Home Poplar (Published in The Commercial Appeal on February 12, 2010)
