BURGHILL - Robert Cebula, 79, of Burghill, passed away Saturday evening, Dec. 7, 2013, at St. Joseph Health Center, Warren.
He was born Nov. 4, 1934, in Youngstown, the son of John and Mary Lou Petrick Cebula Jr.
Robert graduated from Hartford High School and retired from Delphi-Packard in 2006 as a jack stacker. He worked 34 years. He was also a self-employed farmer. At one time, he drove school bus for the Badger schools.
He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle in Vienna.
His other love was the Trumbull County Fair. He started by showing 4-H in 1947 and then moved to the fair board, where he was member for more than 50 years. He was the first 4-H Fair King. He served as longtime entertainment and advertising committee chairperson, bringing many big-name acts to the fair.
He was responsible for starting the first tractor pull and demolition derby at the fair, and he worked with the 4-H dairy and livestock sale program. He was also in charge of opening day activities. He was elected to the Ohio Fair Managers Association Hall of Fame.
His community activities include past president of the Warren Men's Bowling Association and of the Trumbull County Jersey Cattle Club. While serving as Grand Knight of the Kinsman Knights of Columbus, they placed first in the state of Ohio for their programs. He was a member of the Two Gallon Club for blood donors. He also was honored by General Motors' Community Award program.
He belonged to the former Hartford Grange 1479 and the Trumbull County Farm Bureau. He sponsored basketball, softball and bowling teams in the Warren area and was an original member of the "Scrappers Backers" in Niles. He sold coffee at work and then donated the money to Autumn Hills Nursing Home at Christmas. He was an American Heart Association fundraising chairman. Years ago, he drove a car at Sharon Speedway.
He is survived by his wife, Geneva Lackey Cebula, whom he married June 2, 1962; three daughters, Bobbi (William) Everidge of Cortland, Carolyn (Dave) Evinsky of McDonald, and Teresa (Brian) Rossi of Burghill; one son, Thomas Cebula of Burghill; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Devon Everidge.
Friends and relatives may call at the Galloway-Onstott Funeral Home, 3451 St. Route 7., Hartford on Wednesday, Dec. 11, from 4 to 7 p.m.
Burial will be at All Souls Cemetery.
