Tommie Margaret Lamb Box, 85 of Hawthorne, FL passed away October 12, 2012, at home surrounded by her family and friends after a brief illness. Resident of the Melrose and Hawthorne area for 49 years and a member of The Church at Orange Heights.
Tommie was born on November 24, 1926 in Hatch Bend, Lafayette County, FL; to Nule & Eva Calton Lamb.
She worked as a cottage parent and supervisor at Sunland Training Center, known now as Tacachale. There she was known to many as "Mama Box", whom they loved dearly. Tommie loved spending time with her family and friends, and beloved dog "Sassie".
Tommie will be missed by all. We will always remember her quick wit and humor.
Tommie is survived by her daughter Janet Box Carver (Terry Beckham), daughter in law, Judy B. Lamb; sons, John F. (Susie) Box, Jr., Herbert (Myrna) Box, Edward (Polly) Box and Howard (Barbara) Box. 23 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Sister, Althea Lovering and Brother, Woodrow "Buddy" Lamb numerous nieces & nephews; extended family, Andy, Carolyn, Garrett and Jordan Hanner; Stacy and Anna Murrow.
Mrs. Box was preceded in death by her husband John F. Box, Sr.; sons, Craig N. Lamb, Mike Suggs and John "Keith" Box.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 20th, at 11:00 am at The Church at Orange Heights, with Dr. Lonnie Broome officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at 3:00 pm at Oak Grove Cemetery, Branford , Florida.
Memorial donations may be made to The Church at Orange Heights building fund or to the youth scholarship fund.
