She was born Sept. 21, 1926, in Catawba County to the late Edgar Ransom and Bula Eckard Lail.
Mrs. Austin was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the Women of the Church group. She was a retired floor supervisor at MDI.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Coolidge Perry Austin; a son, Dennis K. Austin; and a brother, Robert E. Lail.
Survivors include a daughter, Trudy A. Browder of Hickory; a granddaughter, Stacy Tracy and husband, Mike Tracy, of Winston-Salem; a grandson, Dennis Keith Austin Jr. of Alexander County; a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth D. Tracy of Winston-Salem; two great-grandsons, Edward A. Tracy of Winston-Salem and Joshua P. Austin of Alexander County; and a number of nieces and nephews.
There will be a private graveside service held Monday in Catawba Memorial Park, with the Rev. Dr. James Stevenson officiating.
Pallbearers will be Michael Tracy, Andrew A. Shell and Gregory R. Shell.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 tonight, Sunday, at Bass-Smith Funeral Home.
