Carolyn M. Apgar (1949-2010)
Passed away peacefully, in her sleep March 17th at Georgetown Hospital. After a long battle with colon cancer, Lyn succumbed to the disease over the past month. Beloved wife of William H. Apgar, caring and loving mother of Jen, Chris, Tim, Ben, and Jon, dear grandmother of Tasman, embracing her extended family Walter, Susanne and their families, a loyal sister of Debbie, Kim, and Jeff, and fond of her cousins and nieces and nephews. Born Carolyn Laidlaw in Toronto, she was predeceased by her parents Rod and Suzanne. Lyn will be lovingly remembered by her close friends, old and new, and missed by her colleagues at Ontario Trillium Foundation and Laidlaw Foundation. Lyn graduated from the University of Toronto in 1971 with a B.A. in Economics, went on to receive her teaching certificate at Simon Fraser University, and later broadened her professional development at Sheridan College and the University of Guelph. Throughout her life Lyn was devoted both to nurturing her family and to the research and funding of social humanitarian causes. She always encouraged her children to forge their own paths and strive to achieve their potentials; in her career, she was valued by her co-workers for her professionalism, dedication, and her passionate sense of philanthropy. Lyn found ways to express her artistic side through photography and knitting, and her need for exploration and adventure through trail-walking and travel. She will ever be an inspiration and greatly missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be on Sunday, March 21st from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at J.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road (north of Maple Avenue), Georgetown (905-877-3631). Funeral service will follow on Monday, March 22nd at 1 p.m.
