Marie P. (Lavoie) Lagasse, 88, of Nashua passed away on Wednesday March 16, 2011 at Southern NH Medical Center after a courageous battle with kidney and heart disease. She died peacefully surrounded by her family.

Marie was born in Nashua on October 9, 1922, a daughter of the late Auguste & Alma (Beaulieu) Lavoie.

She was the wife of Roger O. Lagasse of Nashua.

Marie was a lifelong Nashua resident and she had been educated in Nashua schools. Because of her family's hard times, she left school at an early age to help care for her brothers and sister until the age that she married her first husband Roger and they raised their family. He passed away of cancer at the age of 41.

Marie was fortunate to meet the second Roger in her life whom she married and celebrated 49 years together. As a young adult, she worked at St. Joseph Hospital. She was employed as a shoe stitcher at Bobby Beck and Tom McCann Shoe Factory for 10 years. Marie also provided home care for children for 5 years after she left the shoe industry.

One of Marie's passions was sewing, knitting and crocheting. She always made sure her children and grandchildren had warm hats and mittens during the winter. Because of those skills her son-in-law, Sy, approached her one day and asked if she would like to learn how to repair oriental rugs. She said yes and became Sy's apprentice for 10 years at Persian Rug Galleries until she and Roger retired to Florida. They lived there for 17 years before her health started to fail.

They returned to Nashua so her family could help with her care. Her favorite hobbies were playing cards and bingo with her family and friends. She also enjoyed cross stitching ad she was an avid reader of James Patterson. Her most enjoyable times were spent with her family and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Although Marie's health was failing for the last 3 years, it was her courage that was so evident to all. She never complained and always had a great sense of humor. She was an inspiration to us all. She will truly be missed by everyone that knew her.

Her family would like to thank the staff and doctors at Nashua Nephrology, the Davita Center and Southern NH Medical Center, especially the 4th floor medical staff for their support and care during her illness.

She was predeceased by a sister; Gertrude Gaul, two brothers; Maurice Lavoie and Joseph Lavoie as well as a step-son; Paul Lagasse.

Besides her husband, Marie is survived by;
Four daughters; Marie Bacon and her husband James of Bridgeport, CT, Doris Massey and her husband Robert of Hudson, Janice DeFelice of Bedford, MA and Janet Mahfuz and her husband Sy of Merrimack
Nine grandchildren; David, Steven, Michelle, Laura, Melissa, Craig, Jennifer, Fouad and Medina
