CHAMPLAIN -- Leona Dupuis, 88, passed into the arms of our Lord on Jan. 10, 2008, surrounded by her loving family. She was born and resided in Ellenburg Center most of her life. Mrs. Dupuis was predeceased by her husband Jerome (Elmer) in 1969.
She was a devoted housekeeper, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking. gardening, canning, quilting and needle work. She was a member of St. Edmund's Church and the Altar and Rosary Society.
Leona is survived by her six sons, Richard and Kathy of Ellenburg Center, Gerald of Ellenburg Center, Herman of Glens Falls, Rolland and Lois of Churubusco, Joseph and Vicki of Stillwater and Larry of Washington, D.C.; and seven daughters, Rose and Paul Kloiber of Merrill, Theresa and George Carlson of Champlain, Pauline and John Mitchell of Champlain, Gloria and John Columbe of Chazy, Helen and Michael Guay of Mooers Forks, Eunice and Vernon Roberts of Wingdale, Marion and Steven Matthews of Churubusco; and 35 grandchildren; and 47 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Lester and Shirley Tourville of Hamburg; sisters, Doritha Fisher of Lakeland, Fla., and Jeanette Van Slyke of Rochester; and two sisters-in-law, Hilda Lagasse and Frances Tourville of Ellenburg Center.
Besides her husband, Leona is predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Lucy Lagasse (Tourville); brothers Raymond Lagasse, Norman Tourville, Leo Tourville, Earl Tourville, Carl Tourville; and her sisters, Ada Zangari and Evangeline Whalen; three grandchildren, Julie Columbe, Shannon Guay and Jerry Matthews; one great-grandson, Cian Dupuis; son-in-law Robert Miner; and daughter-in-law Carol Dupuis.
The family wishes to share their gratitude for the excellent care provided to their mother. A special thanks to Dr. William Pelton, Monica Christiansen, Hospice of the North Country and the fire departments of Ellenburg Center, Ellenburg Depot and Champlain EMS.
Calling hours will be held at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday. A funeral service will be held at St. Edmund's in Ellenburg on Saturday, at 11 a.m.
