Alphonsine Marie Lafontaine Bouchard

Born in Natick, R.I., she was the daughter of Benoni & Agatha (Lavalle) Lafontaine. She was christened at S.S. Peter & Paul R.C. Church, Phenix, R.I.(The Parish record recorded her as as Mary FONTAINE, daughter of Belloni FONTAINE and {second wife} Agatha Lavallee)

While a small child, her parents lived in Fitchburg for several years, then returned to Quebec, settling in St Edwidge, Compton Co.
Alphonsine married Joseph D. Bouchard in St Edwidge, September 22, 1890. In October 1902, shortly after a disasterous fire, and following the death of both her parents within a year, Alphonsine, Joseph and their children, Pomela, Neil Jos., Florence, Wilhelmine and Hervey)emigrated to the USA, to Fitchburg, MA where they each had relatives.

Just a month later, their youngest child, son Hervey, died of measles, at the age of 1yr, 5 months, 11 days, and was buried in St Joseph's Cemetery. (Fitchburg City Hall records recorded him as "Shervez.") Herve was buried in a section of St Joseph's Cemetery reserved for newborns & infants. There is no stone.(Cem rec)

Alphonsine was one of the founders of St. Joseph's Parish, Fitchburg, and was a member of the Ladies of St Ann's Society of the parish. The widow of Joseph D. Bouchard, she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Bedard and Mrs. Alexander LaPrise, also of Fitchburg; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Her funeral was held Sept 21, from Aubuchon Funeral Parlors with a funeral Mass in St Joseph's Church. The honorary bearers representing the Ladies of St Anne, were Mrs.Adolph Belliveau, Mrs. Ronaldo Thibodeau, Mrs. Simonne Fluet and Mrs. Flora Carron. The bearers, all nephews of Mrs. Bouchard, {actually, they were grandsons, except Gilbert, who was a friend of the grandsons} were Armand LaPrise and Robert Bouchard of Gardner, Raymond Gagnon, Leon Lagasse and Gilbert Dorosier of Nashua, NH, and Neil Bouchard of Beverly, Mass.
