Died 3:50 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, 1988, at Lane Memorial Hospital, Zachary. He was 94, a native of Pointe Coupee and resident of Baker. He was a retired farmer and a U.S. Army veteran. Visiting at Charlet Funeral Home, Zachary, after 8 a.m. until religious services at 10 a.m. Friday, conducted by the Rev. Ralph Marshall. Burial in Hillcrest Cemetery, Baker. Survived by wife, Mary Williams Lafield; a daughter, Mrs. Ina Powell, New Tazewell, Tenn.; two sons, Walter Lafield Jr. and Ray Lafield, both of Baton Rouge; two stepsons, William L. Hawkins, Baton Rouge, and M. Glenn Hawkins, Baker; a sister, Berta Caldwell, Baton Rouge; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, brothers and sisters. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Baker.
