Spud Laffoon, 66, passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. A Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Early Chapel Christian Church in Earlham with burial of cremated remains at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, IA.

Spud was born July 5, 1947 in Chariton, IA to Paul and Hazel (Nordeen) Laffoon. He worked as a lineman for Parr Manufacturing and was also a computer programmer for 15 years. Spud was a U.S. Navy Veteran during the Vietnam War where he received the National Defense Service Metal, Vietnam Service Metal with one Silver Star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was a member of the Early Chapel Christian Church, American Legion in Earlham, VFW in Adel and was a Mason. Spud enjoyed golfing, woodworking, spending time with his family, joking around, his pets and was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan.

Spud is survived by his wife, Linda Laffoon of Earlham; son, Eric Laffoon of WI; daughter, Amy Laffoon of KS; six step-children, Steven (Jackie) Bohn of TX, Alan (Pamela) Bohn of ID, Michael (Nancy) Bohn of Des Moines, Richard (Sue) Bohn of Des Moines, Christina (Todd) Chapman of Adel and Theodore (Melissa) Bohn of KY; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Tim (Becky) Laffoon of CA, John Laffoon of Iowa City and David Laffoon of Adel and one sister, Melissa (Hubert) Greiner of Keota.
