Billie Jane Blackburn, 84, died Tuesday, December 29th, 2009 at a local nursing center. Services at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, January 2nd, 2010 at the Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Richardson officiating under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. Burial in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Billie was born July 12, 1925 in Texarkana, TX to Henry and Lola Lackey. She had lived in the Abilene area all of her life and married David Preston Blackburn in 1962. Mr. Blackburn passed away in April of 2007.

Billie was employed with Southwestern Bell Telephone and retired in 1977 after 32 faithful years of service. She was an active member of the Eastern Star for 50 years and served as Worthy Matron. Billie was also a member of Southside Baptist Church.

Survivors include a brother, Stan Lackey and his wife, Joyce of Lakewood, CO; one sister-in-law, Mary Hardin; six nieces; two nephews, and numerous cousins. Preceding her in death were a brother, Henry Preston Lackey; and two sisters, Flora Bryan and Dorothy Dalrymple.
