Albert Lachnit’s Neck Broken When Auto Crashes Through Railing of a Bridge

Cedar Rapids, Nov. 1 (By Telegram Staff Corrrespondent) – Albert Lacnit, 23-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Lachnit, was killed and his companion slightly injured about 7 o’clock Friday evening, just north of Cedar Rapids between the steel bridge and town, while returning home from Primrose, where they had been working on the road.

On the way the lights of Lachnit’s car burned out, but he continued the trip, thinking he could make town in dark. In crossing the bridge he confused the railing with the center of the road. The car hit the railing and plunged through it into the ditch below. Mr. Lachnit’s neck and back were broken in the crash, and death was believed instantaneous.

He is survived by his parents, nine brothers and three sisters. Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 9 o’clock in St. Anthony’s Catholic church, Rev. Father Vermullen officiating, and burial will be had in the parish cemetery.

Upon receipt of word by Columbus relatives concerning the tragic death of Albert Lachnit, his aunt, Miss Mary Lachnit, and his cousins, Mrs. M. H. Phillips, Mrs. T. D. Adamy, Miss Clara Schroeder, Louis Schroeder, jr. , and Leo Adamy, left to attend the funeral services tomorrow. The John B. Lachnit family were formerly residents of Humphrey. Albert was a nephew of Register of Deeds Louis A. Lachnit.

Obituary

Albert F. Lachnit was born March 28, 1903 at Platte Center, Nebr. He moved to Boone Co. east of Cedar Rapids in 1907 where he lived with his parents until his death October 29, 1926.

He worked for three years for Father Flanigan at Omaha where he was well loved by all who knew him.

He leaves to mourn his death his beloved parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Lachnit, nine brothers and two sisters besides many other relatives.

Funeral services were held at the St. Anthony Church Tuesday morning at nine o'clock conducted by Rev. Father Vermullen who preached a very interesting sermon.

Relatives attending the funeral from out-of-town were Louis Schroder, Mrs. Richard Adamy and son, Mrs. Milton Phillips, Miss Mary Lachnit, and Miss Clara Schroder all of Columbus; Henry Lachnit and wife and Mary Korth of Humphrey.
