Mabel, the youngest child and only daughter of John and Emma (Jones) LaRue, was born in Missouri--most likely Joplin, in Jasper County, as that is where her family lived at the time, when her father was working in the lead and zinc mines there.
Mabel and her family moved to Los Angeles when she was about 17 years old. She had 4 brothers--Jesse, Frank, Clyde Edgar, and Baron.
When she was 21, Mabel married Roy Leslie Cass, on September 16, 1917, in Los Angeles, with her brother Frank and his wife Lida as witnesses, but the marriage did not last, and as far as is known, they did not have children. They divorced before 1920.
Mabel worked most of her life. In 1920, she was living with her parents and brother Baron, and working at sales in a grocery store. In 1930, she was still living with her family (John, Emma, Baron, Clyde and Clyde's 2 oldest children Paul and Fern) when she was working at a fountain in a restaurant. By 1940, after the death of her mother eight years earlier, Mabel kept house for her father and brother Baron while she worked as a clerk in a drugstore.
Mabel met a widower, George Bartholomew (son of Louis and Anna), and they married August 4, 1954, in Los Angeles. [George had 2 children from his previous marriage to Mildred E Harriman--George Francis, and Robert Roddy Bartholomew.]
It was a happy and contented marriage, and they lived together in the Los Angeles area until her death in 1971.
