MARSHALL DEMOCRAT-NEWS, Tuesday, December 6, 2011

Helen Kay Alexander, 75, of rural Marshall, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2011, at her home.

Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 10, 2011, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. at Blackwater Church of Christ in Blackwater. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Marshall.
Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall has charge of arrangements.

Born September 15, 1936, she was the daughter of the late David Avon LaForce and Delphine Green LaForce. On June 7, 1957, at Red Top Christian Church in Hallsville, she married Ronald Alexander, who survives of the home.

After graduating from Hallsville High School in 1954, she graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a Bachelor of Science Degree in vocational home economics education and a Masters Degree in clothing and textiles in 1958. Additionally, she earned a Masters Degree as a reading specialist graduating Summa Cum Laude from Central Missouri State University. She taught vocational home economics for two years in Murray, Iowa, one year at Ashland and two years at Richmond. She taught adult classes for University Extension in clothing construction. She retired after 22 years of teaching 5th and 6th grade at Blackwater Elementary School. She loved to be near her family, traveling across the United States, camping and canoeing with family and friends, and celebrating birthdays and holidays with her family. She was a member of the Church of Christ and taught children's Sunday school for many years.

She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Justin Reynolds.

She is also survived by her children, Brad Alexander of Dallas, TX, Doug (Jennifer) Alexander of Marshall, Greg (Debbie) Alexander of Sheldon, IA, Jill (Mel) Reynolds of Marshall, and Kathi (Roger) Barnes of Chillicothe; six grandchildren; one brother, Gerald (Laurie) LaForce of Hallsville; and several nieces and nephews.
