Fonne A. LaBorde, 89, Emporium, died Tuesday at Gilchrist Hospice Care, Columbia, Md.

Born Oct. 12, 1922, in Rockton, he was a son of the late Orvin and Katherine Miller LaBorde. He was married to Enes LaBorde July 19, 1952. She survives.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was part of the 101st Airborne Division "Screaming Eagles." He was an avid trout fisherman, enjoyed collecting glass bottles, picking nuts and berries and spending time with his family. In his youthful days, he was a star baseball player.

He is also survived by two daughters, Darlene (Mark) McBride, Columbia, Md., and Tammy (Jorge) Coronel, Clark Summit; one son, Rodney (Melissa) LaBorde, Scranton; two sisters, Rita Hockins, DuBois, and Dean Oakes, Glen Willard; one brother, William LaBorde, Rockton; and seven grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by four brothers: Dan "Harry", James, Pete "Merle" and Pat "Kenneth" LaBorde; and five sisters: Betty Helburn, Audrey Hobbes, Veda Dempsey, Grace Hollopeter and Josephine Zimmerman.


LaBORDE: Fonne A., Emporium, died Dec. 13, 2011. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mohney Yargar Funeral Chapel, DuBois, with Pastor Ben Yost officiating.

Burial will be in Rockton Cemetery, Union Township, Clearfield County.
