_____________

James parents are unknown but some believe his father was possibly a Martin Laurence/Lawrence and his mother was named Jeminy. It is also believed he had at least one brother named William.

James homesteaded with his son William Martin "Bill" Lawrence in Izard County around 1840-1845. He was a democrat in politics and a baptist by religion. James became a prominent citizen in the Izard County area and when, in 1846, the Arkansas General Assembly established the county seat in Izard County, James, along with Miles Jeffery and a Simeon E. Rossen, were appointed commissioners of the county. James also served the area as a Justice of the Peace. His main occupation was that of a farmer.

James married first to Sally Tucker in about 1809 in Tennessee. She died in Lincoln County, Tennessee in 1820.

James married secondly to Cynthia Franks, the daughter of Lemuel Franks. They married, probably in Tennessee, in about 1822.

James is buried with his wife Cynthia in the Lawrence Family Cemetery, Melbourne, Arkansas, on land they originally homesteaded when they first arrived in the area.

Hey Cousin!

I have found out that the child of James Lawrence and Sally Tucker, Sara Lawrence is actually Sara H. Lawrence, born 1813 and died 1884 (don't know where but possibly Alabama). She married a Brock and they had a son named Martin Van Buren Brock. I got this information from a direct descendant of Sally Tucker Lawrence named Jean Willis - she lives in Mississippi. Also., she says that Sally's parents were James Tucker and Catherine Warne - and that name is very familiar to me.
