Ann L. Lamb, 84, of Colchester, Ill., passed away Monday, Oct. 1, 2008, at the Heartland Health Care Center in Macomb, Ill. She was born Sept. 16, 1924, in Hyde Park, Utah, to Lorin S. and Avon L. Lamb. She is survived by two sisters, Marigene Peart, Bountiful, Utah, and Reta (Robert) Downs of Hyde Park, Utah; one brother, Lewis (Kathie) Lamb of Afton, Wyo.; a brother-in-law, Jean (Marilyn) Waite; nieces; nephews; great- and great-great-nieces and nephews; and longtime friends, Donna Phillips and Marion Blackinton. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Helen Waite; a brother, Richard Lamb; a sister-in-law, Margie Lamb; and a brother-in-law, Quentin Peart. Ann served in the Army Air Corps in 1943-44, where her assignment was in flight operations. Ann graduated from North Cache High School. She received her B.S. and M.S. in physical education from Utah State University. She received her Ph.D. in physical education and a certification in counseling from the University of Utah. She also was granted a fellowship at Ohio State University, where she completed advanced study in research design and statistical analysis. Ann was largely responsible for organizing women's athletics on the Western Illinois University campus and was appointed the first women's athletic director.
While growing up in Utah, Ann competed on softball and basketball teams. She enjoyed participating in a number of physical activities including downhill and cross county skiing, tennis, golf, swimming and working outside in her garden. She was a member of the LDS Church and enjoyed teaching the Gospel Doctrine class. She also served in the women's athletics.
Burial at the Hyde Park Cemetery.
