Mildred L. Smith, 89, of Danville, passed away at 6:57 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 28, 2003) at the Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, Ill.
She was born the daughter of Charles and Ethel Kyger in Union Corner, Ind., on Sept. 10, 1914. Mildred married Donald Eldon Smith on Dec. 3, 1933, in Danville. He preceded her in death in 1979. Survivors include: four sons, Donald (Sally) Smith of Danville, Harold (Sharon) Smith of Centerville, Ohio, Terrance (Susan) Smith of Danville, and David (Gayle) Smith of Barrington, Ill.; one brother, Charles Kyger of Decatur, Ill.; two sisters, Verda of Decatur and Iris Snyder of Denver, Colo.; 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
Mildred started the Union Corner 4-H Sewing Club in April of 1935 and was a lifelong member, and a member of the "WSCS", Woman Society of Christian Service as well as running her own ceramic shop. Her hobbies included sewing and spending time with her family.
A celebration of life for Mildred Smith will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center; Officiating: Pastor Tiffany Black; Burial: Sunset Memorial Park; Visitation: one hour prior at the funeral home; In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to a charity of the donor's choice.
