After living in Monongalia Co., VA (now WV), they moved to Monroe Co., Ohio in the very early 1800's. The family settled on Sunfish Creek near Clarington in Salem Township. Some of their children had been born in WV with the rest being born in Ohio.
The first schoolhouse in the Salem Twp. area was built in 1815 about 21/2 miles up the creek on the land of Daniel Kyger. Around 1832-33 Daniel, Anna and most of their children, and some other families traveled from Ohio to Illinois. They settled in an area that would be called McKendree Community in Georgetown Twp. in Vermillion Co. Some of the children with their families moved a short distance to Grape Creek in Danville Township.
The Kygers were Methodist and after John Ritter donated land for a church, Daniel Kyger, along with other members of the family and neighbors helped, through donations and work, to get the first McKendree Church built.
Daniel made his last Will and Testament out in the presence of Jacob Braselton and William Stowers, his friends and neighbors, on March 07, 1837. Daniel died April 27, 1849 and Anna died June 09, 1859. After Daniel's death Anna lived with her daughters, Hannah and Angeline Minerva. Both are buried in McKendree Cemetery.
