Mrs. Odessa Irene Kyger Harlow, 80, a resident of 616 Collicello Street in Harrisonburg, went to be with her Lord Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 17, 2002, at her home.

A daughter of the late Lula Florence Shifflett, she was born on Nov. 16, 1922, in Rockingham County.

She lived her entire life in the Rockingham County-Harrisonburg area and attended McGaheysville High School. Mrs. Harlow had formerly worked for Duplan Corp., Blatts Cleaners and Smith-Hayden Cleaners, and had worked at Walker Manufacturing for 21 years prior to her retirement in July 1989. She was a member of the McGaheysville United Methodist Church and attended the Park View Baptist Church for over 30 years.

Along with her grandchildren, she enjoyed gardening, yard work, cooking, sewing and reading.

She is survived by two daughters, Frances Kiser and husband, Kim, of Mount Crawford, Darlene Shifflett and husband, Welty, of Harrisonburg; six grandchildren, Jonathan David Shifflett and wife, Daisy, Shannon Layne Kiser and wife, Christina, Jennifer Nicklow and husband, Thomas, Kelly Star Shifflett, Linden Lee Kiser and Benjamin Schuyler Shifflett; three great-grandchildren, Lantz Shifflett; Jarrod Nicklow and Zelda Shifflett. She also leaves one brother, Christopher Kyger of Harrisonburg; four sisters, Ruth Alice Shifflett and husband, Delmas, of Elkton, Hilda Mae Lam and husband, Clifton, of Harrisonburg, Edna Lee Mowbray of Harrisonburg, and Lethia Frances Kyger, with whom she made her home in Harrisonburg. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Lewis Wilford Kyger, Oliver Kyger and Arnold Freemont Kyger; a sister, Lula Evelyn Kyger; a sister-in-law, Shirley Burkett Kyger, and a brother-in-law, Herbert Lee Mowbray.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Park View Baptist Church with the Rev. Lloyd Sprinkle officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mount Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 Friday evening at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 734, Harrisonburg, Va., 22803, in her memory.
