J.B. Kuykendall, 87, of Vienna, a captain under General John A. Logan, in the Civil War, was fatally injured in a motor accident near Carterville Monday (4 Feb 1929). The driver of another car, John Hatfield, of Carterville is blamed for the wreck.

KILLED AGED MAN; HOLD DRIVER FOR MANSLAUGHTER

MARION Ill., Feb 5 - State's Attorney Roy Browning expects to issue an indictment charging Carl Hadfield of Carterville, Ill., driver if the automobile which crashed into the J. B. Kuykendall machine near Carterville Sunday, with manslaughter, he said last night. Kukendall died of his injuries. Hadfield is in a serious condition in a local hospital. Kuykendall, who was 87, operated the Vienna rolling mills for 40 years and had been a Vienna bank director many years. He served as a private under his father, Major A. J. Kuykendall, during the Civil War. Funeral services will probably be held in Vienna.
