Dorothy E. Bott, 97 of Springfield, IL, formally of Anderson, IN, died at 12:45 a.m. on April 29, 2011 at Regency Nursing Care Residence.
She was born November 22, 1913 in Elwood, IN to Raymond and Locia Harbit Kurtz. The family moved to Anderson, IN when she was a young child, and she lived there for most of her life. She graduated from Anderson High School in 1930, and then attended Jordon College of Music at Butler University. She married Morris F. Bott, September 3, 1932. He preceded her in death on February 1, 1987.
Dorothy was an accomplished pianist, organist and teacher. Over the years she taught many children to play the piano. She was a member of East Lynn Christian Church in Anderson where she was the organist for many years. From 1952-2000, she was an organist for Brown, Butz and Diedring Funeral Home.
In addition to music, Dorothy loved basketball and baseball. She was an avid fan of Anderson High School and Indiana University basketball, and was a Chicago Cub fan. She also loved animals, especially dogs and cats.
In 2000, Dorothy moved to Springfield, IL to be near her family. She loved spending time with them and being a part of their activities.
Dorothy is survived by one daughter, Judy (Larry) Stack of Springfield; two granddaughters, Jennifer (Robin) Gill of Springfield, and Karen (Brian) Kern of Chatham, IL and four great-grandchildren; Bailey and Morgan Gill and Evan and Emma Kern.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Brown, Butz and Diedring Funeral Home in Anderson, IN. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sangamon Valley Youth Symphony or the Animal Protective League of Springfield.
