Don was an accomplished cabinet maker and was sought out by many a builder for his expertise in quality of workmanship. He was an avid NASCAR fan, never missing a race. When asked who was his favorite driver, he would tell you, any of the boys from Indiana.
He is survived by his daughter, Lea (Robert) Schenkel; son, Kevin Brazil; grandchildren, Daniel J. (Jenny) Schenkel, Adam Schenkel, Scott (Kelly) Schenkel and his "favorite granddaughter," Jillian Rose Schenkel. He is also survived by his loving companion of 20 years, also known as Sunshine to him, Ruth O'Banion.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gwendolyn Kurtz; and sister, Helen Wray.
Friends will be received Saturday, March 24, 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. at the Porter Funeral Home , North Salem, Indiana. Services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor John Gossett officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.
The family would like to thank St. Vincent Carmel Hospital, Manor Care Rehab and St. Vincent Hospice for all their loving and compassionate care.
