Mike Kulikowski, Sr. was born as Nikodemas Kulakauskas in Nevardenai, Lithuania, located southeast of Varniai in Telsiai County. His parents were Juozas Kulakauskas, and Julijona Vazgirda [Julijona is probably buried in Janapole Cemetery]. His surname evolved to Kulikauskas as the family moved to small villages around Janapole northeast of Varniai. Nikodemas left Europe from the port of Bremen, Germany, and came to the United States in August, 1911 (name of ship unknown) and eventually settled in Chicago, and Cicero, Illinois. He came to Albion, Michigan in September, 1918 to work at the Albion Malleable Iron Company. He retired from the Malleable in 1958. There are numerous descendants from his family of 14 children. He married Theodora Barvydaite in Chicago on January 8, 1914 at the Providence of God Church in Chicago. They lived in Cicero, Illinois until moving to Albion, Michigan in 1918. The family surname in Albion evolved to Kulikowski, as it is known in Albion today. There are many descendants today.
