He was the eldest of six children born to Glenn F. and Elizabeth J. (Dziak) Kryst. Kevin was a member of the swim team and played the french horn in the wind ensemble at West Bend (Wisconsin) West High School. He graduated in 1997 with a 3.9 grade point average. He joined the ROTC while a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He graduated with a degree in kinesiology in 2001 and then joined the United States Marine Corps. He had a "need for speed" and flying helicopters fit right in. He was a Cobra helicopter pilot. He was first deployed in Iraq during 2004. This was his second tour and had just began a few weeks ago. He was part of Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 267, Aircraft Group 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, I Marine Expeditionary Force based at Camp Pendleton, California. He was promoted to Captain in November 2005. He is survived by his parents; brothers Bradley, Justin, Tim and Daniel; a sister Jennifer, his fiance, Sara; his maternal grandparents, Sy and Betty Dziak and his paternal grandparents, Clifford and Rita Kryst.
