OWASSO, OKLA. - Anna Katherine "Anne" Kral Hastings, 97, former longtime resident of the Amarillo, Texas, area, died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005, in Tulsa, Okla.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Mowery Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Taud Boatman officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Hastings was born Jan. 10, 1908, in Uniontown, Penn., to Thomas and Anna Kral. She was raised in Fisher County, Texas, attending Longworth and Roby schools and graduating as valedictorian of the Roby High School Class of 1924. During her high school years, she won interscholastic league contests.
She continued her education attending McMurry College, then attended Texas Tech University, where she earned her bachelor's degree in Physical Education and Science in 1934. While at Texas Tech, she was a member of the Women's Athletic Association and was awarded the Double "T" letter for women, for outstanding sports activity. She later attended West Texas State University earning her master's degree in Education in 1951.
She was married in 1935 to Albert Hastings and lived in San Antonio for a short time. After her husband's death, she moved to Amarillo, where she continued teaching and raised her son, Thom. She had an extensive teaching career in the field of science, physical education and coaching girls' athletic events, winning honors in various sports. She began her work in Fisher County, teaching at Capitola and Royston, and coaching girls' basketball. She taught girls physical education at Sam Houston Junior High in Amarillo, for 33 years until her retirement in 1971.
She belonged to numerous professional organizations, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, A.A.U.W., was president of the Pilot Club, a women's service organization, as well as other community affairs. She enjoyed a variety of pastimes including china painting and traveling. She spent her last year living with her son in Owasso.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert, grandson, Todd Hastings, three sisters, Edith Kral, Sara Kral, Margaret Baumgardner, and four brothers, Ed Kral, Ben Kral, Bud Kral, and Ted Kral.
Loving family members include her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas A. and Shirley, of Owasso; two grandchildren, Clint Hastings and Laurie Hastings, both of Tulsa; a brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Willa Kral, of Corsicana, Texas; and two sisters, Marie McCain, of Early, Texas, and Irene Madden of Amarillo.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.
