HOLMESVILLE -- Mabel Kiser, 87, of Holmesville, passed away Thursday evening, July 7, 2011, at Sycamore Run Nursing Home, Millersburg.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Holmesville United Methodist Church, with pastor Kenn Curren officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Township Cemetery, Holmesville.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Holmesville United Methodist Church; Hospice of Wayne County; or Waynedale Athletic Booster Club, P.O. Box 504, Apple Creek 44606.
She was born Jan. 28, 1924, in Holmes County, the daughter of Robert and Katherine (Duer) Korns, and married William "Junie" Kiser Jr. on April 12, 1945. He preceded her in death May 25, 2009.
Mabel had worked at Fisher Body in Cleveland during W.W. II, had been the Holmesville correspondent for The Daily Record in Wooster for several years, and was clerk for 17 years at Holmesville Post Office.
She was a member of Holmesville United Methodist Church, where she was a choir member and served the church in various ways for several years. She was also a member of Holmesville American Legion Post 551 Auxiliary and was a charter member of Stepping Stones Mother's Club.
She enjoyed playing cards and was an avid Ohio State and Cleveland sports fan. She also loved watching Waynedale High School sporting events, and attended many of her children's and grandchildren's sporting events over the years. She loved family get togethers.
Surviving are children, Janice (Larry) Goldberg of St. Charles, Ill., Randy (Cathy) Kiser of Wooster, Kirby (Sandi) Kiser of Apple Creek and Joni (Kent) Hofacre of Worthington; grandchildren, Barrie (Ryan) Alpert, Alex Goldberg, Kristi Walti, Nikki (Mike) Leavitt, Landre (P.J.) McCloud, Bryce (Berda) Kiser, Hannah Kiser, Matt, Kyle and Emily Hofacre; great-grandchildren, Maggie, Brodie and Tate Alpert, Ryan and Drew Walti, Chloe and Colton Leavitt, Jillian McCloud; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Betty Burkey and Harriet Paxton; and a brother, Robert Korns.
The family would like to thank the staff at Greenfield for their loving care over the past year and a half and also Sycamore Run and Wayne County Hospice for the wonderful care they gave Mabel for her short stay there.
