Bernard Koops, 91, of Sioux Center, IA died Saturday, October 1, 2011 at the Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen, IA.
A visitation will be held Monday at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center from 4-8PM, with the family present from 6-8PM.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 2PM at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.
The Koops family prefers memorials to Happy Siesta Care Center of Remsen.
Bernard W. Koops, 91 years, and 8 months of Sioux Center, Iowa, died Saturday, October 1, 2011 at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen, Iowa.
He was born to William and Bertha (Zeutenhorst) Koops on January 15, 1920 in Sioux Center, Iowa. On December 20, 1945 he married Cornelia Westerbeek. The couple farmed near Sioux Center until 1963 when they moved to town. Bernie was a member of the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center and the American Legion Post, of which he was a 50 year pennant member.
Survivors include six children and their spouses: Beth and Marv Vander Veen of Orange City, Bill and Carol Koops of Hull, Jean and Jerry Davelaar of Seal Beach, CA, Karen and Butch Maassen of Alton, Bernie Koops and special friend, Rhonda Sanderson of Sioux Center and Vern and Glenda Koops of Reidsville, NC; 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and his special loyal canine companion, Penny. He is also survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law: Ken and Arlene Koops of Bellflower, CA, Harold and Corky Koops of Seal Beach, CA and sister-in-law, Johanna Koops of Hudsonville, MI.
Bernard was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Cornelia on October 10, 1996; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Herm and Dora Koops, William and Mary Koops; a brother, Jim Koops and a sister and brother-in-law, Jan and Harold Moret.
