GALVA, IL - Jannan F. "Jan" Konstanty, 82, of Galva, formerly of Downers Grove, IL, passed away at 3:35 AM, Saturday July 4, 2009 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, IL, with her devoted son by her side.
Jan was born on September 7, 1926 in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Daniel and Martha (Oswald) Sullivan. She married John E. Konstanty on April 24, 1948 in Chicago. He preceded her in death on July 27, 1995.
Also preceding her in death were her parents, a son, Andrew, a sister, Rita Livesay and three brothers, Robert, James and John Sullivan.
She is survived by a son, Steve (Pam) Konstanty of Galva, two granddaughters, Julie (Chuck) Forsythe of Kewanee and Jennifer Konstanty of Naperville, IL, two great grandchildren, Erin and Cameron Forsythe, two sister-in-laws, Jan Sullivan of Galva and Nancy Sullivan of Des Plaines, IL, several nieces and nephews and many friends.
She had worked at Admiral in Chicago during WWII and then following her marriage she became a homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Downers Grove prior to becoming a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Galva. She was also a member of Post 504 Ladies Auxiliary VFW and St. John's Altar and Rosary Society where she was once elected volunteer of the year. She enjoyed her yearly family vacations to Wisconsin, reading, listening to opera and spending time with family and friends whom she dearly loved. Jan was known and loved for her great sense of humor and for having great fun. She always kept in touch with all her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 10, 2009 at 11:00 AM at St. John's Catholic Church in Galva. Rev. John Burns will officiate. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5:00-7:00 PM at Rux Funeral Home in Galva with a rosary at 6:45 PM. Cremation will follow after the mass and inurnment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in River Grove, IL at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 18. Memorials may be directed to St. John's Altar and Rosary.
