Wayne T. Konitzer, 64, Popple River, formerly of Oconto Falls, completed his journey with family at his side early Friday morning, Feb. 18, 2011, at the home of his oldest brother, Chester. The 7th of 15 children was born June 1, 1946, in Oconto Falls, to George and Irene (Van Haren) Konitzer. Wayne grew up in rural Oconto Falls where he attended St. Anthony Parochial School and graduated from Oconto Falls High School with the Class of 1965.
On Aug. 14, 1965, he married Rosemary VandenBush at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls. The couple owned and operated Konitzer Cabinets for 35 years before retiring to the home they built in Popple River in 2008. Over the years, Wayne enjoyed anything with an engine that could be raced or competed with including snowmobiles, stock cars, off road racing and antique tractor pulls. He also enjoyed all kinds of hunting with his family and friends. Wayne will be fondly remembered as being very generous with his time and many talents with "no strings attached."
Survivors are his co-worker, hunting companion and best friend, Rosie "Tootie" Konitzer, Popple River; two daughters, Jodi Greiling and Mike "MacGyver" LaFave, Green Bay; Lori (Tim) Moes, Howard; three grandchildren, Torre (Ryan) Klein, Andrew "AJ" Greiling and Bryce Moes; one great-granddaughter, Sophia Rose "Rosebud" Klein; his 13 siblings, Chester (Barbara) Konitzer, Oconto Falls; John (Cookie) Konitzer, Abrams; Fred (Janice) Konitzer, Gillett; Georgia (Arlin) Grenke, Oconto Falls; Robert (Sherri) Konitzer, Lena; Gary (Cookie) Konitzer, Wausaukee; Norene (Gary) Vorpahl, Oconto Falls; Peter (Barb) Konitzer, Abrams; Blaine (Debbie) Konitzer, Stiles; Phillip (Cheryl) Konitzer, Sam (Cindy) Konitzer, Chris (Bert) Williquette, Curt Konitzer, all of Oconto Falls; two sisters-in-law, Julie Konitzer and Linda Markiewicz, both of Oconto Falls; one brother-in-law, Harvey VandenBush; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, George in 1991.
Friends may call at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls (920-848-2222 or visit: www.jonesfuneral.com) from 2 until 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, 2011. Visitation will continue at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls, after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, until the time of service. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Fr. Joel Sember officiating. Cremation will follow and burial will be in the church cemetery.
