Edward J. "Ed" Kohlrus, 85, of Springfield, died at 10:20 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2003 at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born March 8, 1918 in Springfield, the son of Joseph and Teresa Hoffman Kohlrus. He married Julia E Hermon in St. Louis on December 28, 1940; she preceded him in death.
Mr. Kohlrus was a WWII veteran of the United States Coast Guard. He owned and operated Kohlrus Catering in Springfield for more than 50 years. He was a member of Landing Ship Transport Association, Coast Guard Combat Veterans, Knights of Columbus #4164, Iwo Jima Survivors Association, Veterans of Foreign War Northenders Post 10302 and St. Frances Cabrini Church. He enjoyed baseball, fishing, playing cards and cooking.
Mr. Kohlrus was also preceded in death by his parents; one son: Edward, Jr.; three sisters: Mary, Anna and Josephine; three brothers: Louis, Frank and Walter.
He is survived by one daughter; two step-grandchildren; two sisters; one brother; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass at St. Frances Cabrini Church with Reverend Rodney Schwartz celebrant. Burial at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.
